Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your location?

Makani Mills is a microbakery in the heart of Waimea, Hawai'i Island. We operate under Hawai'i's Cottage Food Laws, with a food handler's license, business license and utilize a separate on-site bakery space to craft all our items. Weekly menus are posted on our website and social media and pre-orders are taken through the website between Sunday and Wednesday evening with pick-ups at our home on Saturdays between 8am-4pm.

Can we find you at the local farmers' markets or in stores/shops?

No. Makani Mills operates on pre-orders only.

Do you ever make extra items for last minute Saturday purchases?

I do try to make a few extra of items each week beyond what was ordered. If you missed the order deadline for the week, it never hurts to reach out on Friday evening or Saturday morning to see if there are any extras available.

Do you take special orders outside of your weekly menu?

If I can, I will. I often work with a number of local private chefs, caterers, event planners, etc to craft specific specialty bread and bakery products for their events. I occasionally will take private orders for off-menu and off-day pick-ups. As a teacher, the bakery has to operate around my school schedule which can sometimes be restrictive. But if can, can. Just reach out via email at makanimills@gmail.com.

Do you offer classes?

With our new on-site bakery space finally completed, I hope to offer a number of events like classes, workshops, cookbook clubs in the future. Stay updated on events through our newsletter or by following us in IG @makanimills.
